The wet season in the north is usually between November and April, when the northeast monsoon is blowing. The dry season starts normally in April or May. The southwest monsoon is usually from May to September. The Temperatures are high during the whole year with average temperatures in the lowlands above 25 degrees celsius. Humidity in the coastal areas is high during the whole year.

Best time to travel to Baliem Valley, Wamena, Wasua National Park, Biak and other key destinations is during the dry season. However due to climate change rain can be expected during any time of the year.
