The Baliem Valley is one of the major tourism destinations in Papua. Popular attractions and tours include the Dani villages, walks and trekking touris in the local area, local markets, the Surdiman mountain range and many other cultural and wildlife and nature attractions. Key attractions and destinations include Akima, for it mummy, Kurima and the nearby Baliem River Gorge, Pugima a Danni village among many others cultural and nature attractions.

Wamena, the main town in The Baliem Valley offers a selection of hotels and guest houses. Outside Wamena accommodation is rather limited. In villages accommodation may be available at the teacher's house.

There are some tour operators in Wamena offering day tours or overnight trekking tours over several days. Prices may vary, but tours in the Baliem valley can be very expensive.

There are some restaurants serving primarily local food. Hotels may offer a wider selection of food. Fruits and different types of local food can be bought in the market. During a trekking tour food may be served at the local teacher's house.
Getting to the Baliem Valley
The main airport is in Wamena. There are regular flights from Jayapura. Booking in advance can be essential during busy holiday periods.
